Snow Prince showing off his growing feathers. The other morning I looked out my living room window and Snow and Luchia were beak to beak, staying that way for seemingly minutes. A kiss? Don't know about peacock incest but I'm thinking there is a courtship behavior starting. Snow is getting a little agressive with his brother Lil Carlos, a new behavior. Where I got Luchia they had some beautiful peacocks and peahens with white splotches on them. Will I have chicks this year?

Someone wrote and asked about my grandson Ben, who I used to include in my travel journals. He traveled with me through many states one summer. I have had different adventures with different grandsons. This was taken at my sons house, used to my house in California. My son put on new siding and a huge deck and of course he had to have an outstanding barbeque. Really beautiful there now out on the deck. This was around Thanksgiving and Ben barbequed dinner for me. Tri tip and hot sausages. That's his friend Trevor, my adopted grandson facing the camera.

Rock house ruins at Terlingua Ghost town. This is one of many interesting rock houses built by Indians who came to work in the mines years ago. Some are lived in, others are left for tourists to explore. In front of this is the famous PORCH . The Porch is where locals and tourists alike gather for an evening drink and to chat. There is also often someone with a quitar or other instrument to provide music. Along the Porch is an old adobe building with a great gift shop at one end and the Starlight Theater at the other. The Starlight Theater is a restaurant / theator with a lot of atmosphere.

The Burro Lady: When I was in Texas in April I saw a lone figure walking along the road with a burro packed with blankets. I latter learned this was a well known icon of the area. Judy Majors traveled on the long roads to and from the small towns in Brewster County Texas. Where I saw her was on the long stretch between Van Horn and Marfa. She slept on the ground and lived like this 20 or 30 years. This January in the cold she died at the age of 65 of a heart attack at her camp. You can read more about this lady at:
